On Tuesday morning, after the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee received updates from the state capitol from Senator Ray Scott, and Representative Dan Thurlow, the committee took action on the following bills:

Energy Briefing on February
14:
The Chamber’s first Energy Briefing of the year will take place on
Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the DoubleTree Hotel.
The Energy Briefing will feature Kirk Daehling, the General Manager of Natural Soda. Natural Soda is located just north of Parachute, where they recover sodium bicarbonate through a process known as solution mining. Doors open at 12:00 PM. To register for this event, click

Remote Testimony for HB18-1001:
Remote Testimony for
HB18-1001 “Concerning the creation of a family and medical leave insurance program” is scheduled for next
Tuesday at 1:30 PM on February 6, 2018 at CMU’s University Center. If passed, this bill would create a family medical leave insurance program to provide partial wage-replacements to eligible individuals who take leave from work to take care of a child or family member. This bill also mandates that all businesses, regardless of size, to administer the program for employees. To sign up for the remote testimony, click

State of the Union:
On Tuesday night, President Trump gave his first State of the Union address. In his address, President Trump outlined his agenda for his second year in office, including a $1.5 billion infrastructure plan, and an immigration package that would offer citizenship for “dreamers” in exchange for increased security along the border.
