Colorado Hospital Association Unveil Counter Proposal to Public Option
On Wednesday, the Colorado Hospital Association presented their “total cost of care” proposal, a counter to the controversial state public option proposal. Their "total cost of care" proposal, is based on already existing programs in Oregon and Massachusetts. Under this proposal, an independent insurance commission, appointed by the governor and a bipartisan group of lawmakers, would set a goal for how much health care spending in the state could grow over the next year, based on health care spending data from everyone and everything in the state. If a hospital, insurance company, or other health care entity were to exceed this growth rate, they could potentially be faced with a public hearing and formal improvement plan.
