On Thursday morning, President Trump signed the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” into law. The multi-billion-dollar relief package allows for more flexibility for states in determining Unemployment Insurance compensation, and requires that employers provide up to two weeks of paid sick leave and three months of paid family and medical leave for COVID-19 related absences. Each quarter, employers will receive a fully-refundable tax credit for the wages paid, up to $511 a day for 10 days or $200 a day if the leave is to care for family members.

Lawmakers are also looking into direct payments for taxpayers based on family size and income level.
