Business leaders participate in recent Grand Valley Drainage District Roundtable

“ColoradoCare” estimated to cost Taxpayers $25 Billion
A measure to create a universal and single-payer health care system in Colorado has received enough signatures to make it onto the 2016 ballot. The initiative is dubbed, “ColoradoCare”, and will also be known as Amendment #69. The Legislative Council, the research arm of the Colorado General Assembly, estimates that ColoradoCare would cost Colorado taxpayers $25 billion in its first year of operation when fully implemented. By contrast, Governor Hickenlooper has proposed a $27 billion budget for the State's 2016-2017 fiscal year. CACI has already opposed the measure and other business associations will likely be joining them. To view their statement on the issue, click here.

Hospital Provider Fee Treatment
The Grand Junction Chamber Board on Thursday voted to join Club 20, AGNC, the Denver Metro Chamber and other organizations in supporting the removal of the hospital provider fee from the general fund. Revenue collected from the fee counts toward the limit established by the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) which restricts the growth of state revenue to a formula based on inflation and population growth. Anything in excess of the limit must be refunded to taxpayers. To hear what proponents of this change are saying, click here.

GVDD Fee Hurts Business
The Chamber hosted a meeting on November 13th with over 50 concerned commercial and non-profit property owners to discuss the Grand Valley Drainage District fee which is set to be imposed early next year. The fee puts an unfair burden on businesses inside the district that could harm efforts to retain and create jobs in the future.
