The Board continues to look at options for addressing this fee action which unfairly burdens the business community and negatively impacts the local economy. The Grand Junction Chamber Executive Committee took formal action to not pay the fees assessed on the Chamber property by the Grand Valley Drainage District earlier this month. Members are reminded that these bills are not due until the end of May.

Members who are registered voters, own property and live in District 1 of the GVDD, an area from 20 Road west to Kiefer Extension (approximately 12 Road), and from the Colorado River north to the Grand Valley Highline Canal will have an opportunity to vote for one of three positions on the board of GVDD on May 3rd. Ballots will be cast by paper ballot between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM at the GVDD offices, 722 23 Road. Candidates are Cody Davis and Tad Hutchins. To view the Drainage District map, click here.

Legislation to Allow Beer and Wine Sales Introduced
Earlier this week a bill was introduced in an effort to head off the ballot proposal to allow beer and wine sales in grocery stores this fall. This is a hotly contested issue and the Chamber has members on both sides of it. The bill’s chances of passage are unclear. To learn more about the effort and the controversy click here.
